Ben Gilmore

About Ben:

Ben Gilmore has been a professional artist for over 36 years, creating beautiful works of art in pen and ink, acrylic, and watercolor. He currently works in a realist style in watercolor—serene landscapes and florals, and occasionally in still life if something moves him. He has also recently been experimenting in a more abstract impressionist style in acrylics—creating large canvases of vibrant colors that swim together in harmonious movement. Ben currently lives in Easton, Pennsylvania in the historic College Hill neighborhood. He was born and raised in the Texas Panhandle, and lived for ten years outside of Washington, DC in Alexandria, Virginia.

Education & Work History

Ben received his Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design from West Texas A&M University in 1993. He also attended the Texas State Technical Institute and Amarillo Junior College focusing on Fine Arts, Computer Information Systems, and Graphic Design. He has worked as a freelance graphic designer for years, serving as the Lead Production Artist for several newspapers in the Washington, DC region and as a Lead Illustrator/Department Head for a contractor for the U.S. Department of Defense. In his younger days, he worked for ten years as a locomotive engineer with the Santa Fe Railroad.

Background & Accomplishments

In the 1970's Ben Gilmore fell in love with Watercolors, which became the primary medium in which he likes to work. Throughout his career he has taught Drawing and Watercolor classes to adults and children, hoping to teach others the techniques he has enjoyed for years. In 2003 he began painting in Acrylics, which inspired him to explore more fluid and abstract imagery. Ben mastered his technique through years of practice, and workshops and classes with world-renowned artists such as Stephan Kramer, Mike McCullough, Danny Gamble, David Rindlesbaugher, Mark Morey, Keith Richards and dozens more.

Ben has received numerous show awards with local Fine Arts Associations/Clubs and has been juried into many shows and exhibitions throughout his career, most recently "Honorable Mention" at the Bethlehem Palate Club show at the Allentown Art Museum, and "UGI Utilities, Inc. Award" at Lehigh Art Alliance Fall Exhibition in Iacocca Hall, Lehigh University. He has sold his artwork to numerous private collectors, institutions, and businesses. For several years he worked by commission only. He is currently working towards exhibiting his work in a private show in the Lehigh Valley area.  Check back for date announcement or email him to be put on his mailing list.
